Hair! Oh my God. I’ve had fairly butch short hair for fifteen years, but every now and then I bleach it, and it’s like I suddenly become _visible_ to men in the street…

If I was the a new girl coming to this, I’d look at the timeline of incidents and be put off by the fact that the list per-year is getting longer, not shorter. I’m sure it’s because human memory is fallable. We forget that which happened in 2006 or 2003 or 1995, and even if the Internet Archive remembers the incidents, they probably didn’t kick up the dust storms they do now. There’s not a big footprint from those incidents in 1995 that are unlisted because back then “that’s just how it is, and it’ll never change.” Now that every digression results in a flurry of blog posts, it’s easier to know to add them to the list.

If 2010′s list is as short as pre-2008 lists, I’ll be thrilled.

I don’t see how recording sexist incidents casts the community in a bad light. The incidents cast the community in the bad light, not the recording of them. Even if they’re all in the past (which I don’t believe), recording them just shows us what we need to avoid in the future. Forgetting it all won’t help in the slightest.
