Skud and others were playing around with Translation Party on Twitter over the last few days. I tried it with feminist quotes. Can you guess which quote from this page turned into this?
As with humans, this process is handled by the same treatment.
Here’s a few others, care of Andrew Bennetts:
- “At the end of his arm on his arm, you will begin to sink in the sink.“
- “Not just running to change the definition of women.” (True, that.)
In other news, welcome to our first open thread! This thread is open for geek feminist introductions, speculations, reminiscences and chatter. Please see our About page for our commenting guidelines.

I like the intermediate steps best on this one: Need a bike for a woman like a fish.
On another note entirely, the men bloggers thread kept reminding me of this Red Dwarf episode. The scene that starts round 2:00, where the alternate-reality female Rimmer and Lister discuss “masculinism” with their prime-reality counterparts.
See, it must realize that I’m a guy or something. I click on the link and I get.
“A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.”
“A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bike.”
“A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bike.”
The page is going, “Look, I don’t know how to tell you this but this is a pretty simple phrase. No, it doesn’t matter if I take it back and forth, it’s still got the pretty same meaning. Nice try, but that last one much like the second one, get it through your head.”
*waves hello* I have been spending the last day or so wondering where you’ve been all my life. Or at least the last few months. I’m glad that HaT linked to you.
My name is Anna. I’m a Canadian historian who writes about disability-related history. I can bore you for hours about the subject, and I’m sure once uni starts up again in a week or so I will be blogging about it and nothing else. Yaye me!
I drifted away from computer-greekdom because I had other interests that were better encouraged. I used to code in C for a MUD I was admin for. (I miss MUDs sometimes.)
I’m looking forward to easing myself back into computer geekdom. My friends are trying to convince me that Linux will solve all my problems, but I’ve been afraid to try it.
I guess it depends what your problems are :) Linux solves many, but brings other new ones along.
What MUD did you admin? I used to run LambdaMOOs from time to time but never anything big or long-lasting.

reminds me of a poem I wrote once,
A Study in Breaking and Entering
(for Morgan Lynn, Nora Wilkins, and Amber Hatfield)
“Yo queria entrar en el teclado para entrar adentro de la música
para tener una patria.”
— Alejandra Pizarnik
I wanted to enter the typewriter to get inside music so I would
have a country.
I set out to enter the typewriter so I’d become its music so I’d
have a country.
I desired to penetrate the typewriter so I could l get under the
skin of music in order to have a country.
I crawled up inside the typewriter to live inside music to found a
country of my own.
I fucked my typewriter to curl up in its music to give birth to a
country.
I longed to get inside typewriters, to be the avatar of their
music, in order to create a motherland.
I yearned to become the typewriter’s body to become music
because I wanted a homeland.
I’d be in the typewriter for/getting in music for be/longing.
I’d go into my typewriter to dwell in music and make it my
home.
May I say, not that my approval is important, but that was particularly awesome and breathtaking? There are several moments where I ended up tearing at the images you painted there.
