- (Warning: intersectionality problems.) Feminism is no longer about sexism at all:
It’s fascinating the extent to which women have been shamed out of even claiming a movement to address sexism. We just aren’t allowed to have that. Too strident. Too pushy.

Jonecia and Jazmine are living proof that innovation is not the exclusive domain of the white male geek. There are plenty of us black geeks out there too who need a little more support. Congrats to J and J — you deserve the recognition and that new iPad or iPhone.

- Finsia Busts Common Myths About Women and Work (PDF media release, paper here):
The Financial Services Institute of Australasia (Finsia)… today launched a policy exposition paper which debunks the most common myths with regard to the lack of women holding leadership roles in financial services…The paper has some interesting survey results, like the 'perception gap' between men and women when asked if they have observed different treatment of women compared to men in promotional opportunities, in meetings and training/development.

The WIT Connections Program is a leadership and coaching course developed by and for women in IT, and delivered by women with senior experience in the sector.
- In which I contemplate the ranks of the invisible:
I think we can agree that in the world of popular science, women are largely invisible. I have, of course, heard the usual arguments: there really aren’t any well-known female scientists.

Thanks to everyone who suggested links in comments and on delicious.

a thing that many people who are analyzing wiscon’s statement seem to have missed is that it is a *draft* statement. as in still in progress.
as a someone who works on wiscon and has for years, i’d like to point people to echidne, http://echidneofthesnakes.blogspot.com/2010_10_31_archive.html#519289891583220862, who also analyzes the statement, and who violet socks does offer a pointer to.
Wow, that’s an….interesting…take on intersectionality.
I was gonna say, after looking at that first link and starting at the commentary for sometime, I’m not happy with the ageism, anti-intersectionality and anti-3rd wavers going on. Whole lot of “young feminists get off my lawn and take your gay/PoC concerns with you!” going on. Ouch.
that’s *staring at, not starting…
some kick ass links in there – thanks!
I enjoy the opportunity to see some new faces and great writing, and that was great.
thanks again!
Probably worth noting that linking to stuff in spams doesn’t necessarily mean we all agree with the things the links contain. Because yeah, that first link… while I get the sentiment, it’s so full of fail.
Yes, and some of the comments are worse. Worth putting an intersectionality fail warning on it? Especially with sentiment running high over the Moon GoH thing, some people might appreciate the notice.
OK, added. (ETA: I agree the post and comments have major problems.)
Wired Magazine’s cover has nekked boobies. Cindy Royal writes the best cancel-my-subscription letter ever:
“Then, I turned you over to see what fascinating topics I would be delighted by this month. Boobs. Right there on the cover. A pair of breasts, no head, no rest of body… just boobs.”

I went with “wow, what’s wrong with Wired? Glad I don’t subscribe to that” when I saw it at the bookstore.
