  • Seeing the Future in Science Fiction: Famed science fiction author William Gibson writes that for a “curious, anxious, white male child coming of age in an incurious and paranoid white monoculture, there was literally nothing like it—though a great deal of science fiction, possibly the majority of it, I was starting to notice, depicted futuristic monocultures that were dominated by white males.”

Hey link spam people! (: I was wondering if you might be able to help spread the word about an upcoming QA event that’s welcoming to beginners of all backgrounds that will improve Wikipedia and the underlying software.

https://openhatch.org/blog/2012/june-9-help-wikipedia-test-some-software-and-get-involved-in-their-community-no-programming-required/ is the information link. Thanks either way!

Thanks for the submission, but if we start promoting general geek events we’ll end up with linkspams that aren’t really doing what they’re meant to in terms of creating visibility for writing/events by and for women and feminists.

The classifieds posts are an appropriate place to promote things to readers here that aren’t specifically about women, feminism or anti-oppression.

Mary, thanks for that clarification. An extremely reasonable policy, and also thank you for being so helpful and clear when saying “no”! (-:

I’ll aim for the classified posts in the future for things like this in the future!
